Up and Running Electronics

Soon we here at Up and Running Electronics will no longer be affiliated with Radio Shack in any way.  For the last 8 years we have operated as a Radio Shack franchise store and over the years we have watched Radio Shack the company change in ways that are just not what we want to be associated with or can be associated with.  We have watched Radio Shack change from a company that provided a solid line of products to one that bought essentially clearance items in lots that we could only order at one time and then we'd never get that product again.  We watched them move all the best merchandise that people would actually want to be online only that customers could only purchase through their ecommerce site.  We have also watched the quality of their merchandise become more and more suspect as the years went by.  We went from name brand items to items we had no clue who made them.

All of this coupled with the fact that our 10 year franchise agreement is almost up which would require us to pay a $10,000 franchise fee and also pay them %5 of all profits sold from anything that was not purchased from Radio Shack made us decide it was time to move on.  The final nail in this particular coffin was our new district manager informing us that having an American flag in the front window was inappropriate and that it was clutter.  This was the week before the 4th of July weekend and the week after a local fallen soldier had been brought home.  This was unacceptable.  This is a small town and we have pride in being part of this community and to have someone who had only been in our store once before make a comment like this, well it became clear the time had come to move on.

So what does this mean for us and for our valued loyal customers?  We will continue in business as Up and Running Electronics, which has always been our store name.  We will continue to offer much the same as we always have, but we will now carry recognizable brands at better prices than we could offer when we were with Radio Shack.  We will carry a wider selection of SONY televisions and accessories including Blu Ray players and such.  We will no longer carry all those little items that Radio Shack had forced us to purchase in the past that just didn't sell well, things like resistors, capacitors, foreign travel converters and other project type items.  These items have always been our worst selling products and we apologize to those few that did enjoy these items, but they just are not a realistic item to carry any longer.

In closing we would like to thank everyone who shops local and has pride in Cresco and the success of Cresco, those that keep their tax dollars and hard earned money local.  We have appreciated your business for the last 8 years and look forward to continue to serve you in the future even better than we were allowed before.
